Test Drive Meme #5
Test Drive Meme #5
You wouldn’t wake; i couldn’t sleep for years.
CRASH LANDING
Exit one dimension, enter the next. It was chaos: pressure against your ears, light bending in an impossible, unimaginable way. The very molecules of your body vibrating against one another. If you have windows, the view outside makes no sense. Even if not, your hands, your face, your feet seem like an uncertain thing. It's the feel of reality itself tearing apart, reshaping, reconnecting, thread by thread.
And suddenly, there's a beach— or ocean, whichever you land in. Smoke. Fire. Salt water churning up, fizzing around.

Maybe you crash, in a ship wrecking into sand. Maybe you merely stumble out of a portal, a ragged wormhole in space. Or maybe you fall off the back of an incredible steed, some creature that carried you into this place. Either way, there's pandemonium around you. Incredibly, severe injuries are far and few between— nobody's screaming about the dead. But you might have to help pull someone free of wreckage, or move quickly to salvage burning belongings from the landing craft. Maybe it's the crafts themselves, that you're trying to salvage.
Likely, you don't know them, these other strangers who arrived here[1]. Maybe you don't trust them— you just came out of a dying world, after all. But you all have one thing in common: you're here now.
When you get a second to breathe, maybe you'll see it. The brilliant green forest across the sand. Beyond that, the glint of a faraway city.
THE RAIN
Here comes the rain. Trickling down the rafters and tinkling down the trees, it starts as a drizzle and steadily increases to a downpour. Maybe it catches you by surprise, chasing you indoors or to share the umbrella of a friendly stranger. There's something oddly elaborate about the gutters of Xistentia's city-- it clearly carries the water toward the temple in the East, a storm system that causes the lamps to pulsate without threatening to shut down.

You'll notice too that you're prone to nostalgia which even infiltrate your dreams, memories sad or happy. This is easily a private experience, but you might find yourself wandering the city to get away from old ghosts or feeling invincible in the glow of memories. More oddly, whether or not you're an artist, you might be inspired to draw on the windows with your finger in the condensation.
Personal symbols, detailed illustrations, these inextricably lead back to the nostalgia. Whatever it is, it might pull someone to ask.
NETWORK

One afternoon, you are taken from whatever you’re doing - taking a walk through the city, sunning yourself on the beach, running around in the forest shoring up defenses - by a message, appearing on your Daemon’s network screen. It’s a simple line of text, that reads:
It would appear that your daemon accidentally sent a picture, perhaps one from your photo roll or instagram, or a random shot of you or your surroundings. Wait. Was that a public network post? Wait—
CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE
hells yeah
Footnotes
- Some of these can be nameless, plot-device NPCs to facilitate interactions! But even in this case, please avoid gore in describing their current state of being. Anyone dead or catastrophically injured will have disappeared by the time your characters make it to Xistentia. There are no corpses or dying here.
- But like OOCly ask permission ofc.
crash, obv
Well, that was nothing new, Falling had become a part of his life ever since he'd woken up in the Shrine of Resurrection, the new aspect was the fact that Sidon dove after him. Why was his friend so concerned? Oh, it was because he didn't know he had a paraglider and could get away from this situation with ease.
But as Link began to pull it out it was torn from his grasp due to the chaotic winds. His eyes widened as he saw the cause for the powerful shift in nature, more meteors had appeared in the sky and were headed straight for them. He opened his mouth as if to yell to Sidon to look behind him but--
SPLASH
All went black.
He was floating. Odd, he could smell the salt of the sea and waves of the ocean, which couldn't be right because they should've landed in the river. He wasn't able to open his eyes yet and every muscle in his body ached- it would've been nice to have a fairy right about now.
He could hear Sidon's voice. Slowly, he tried to raise his left hand to indicate where he was. ]

The Zora dips just barely under the water now and rises up where Link is floating so the Hylian comes to rest on his back. Isn't this familiar? Though he feels a lot more frantic in this moment than he ever had facing Ruta.
He swims to the shore then past all the debris. His pace is slower than before just in case Link doesn't have the strength to hold onto him. The last thing he wants is for his friend to go tumbling back into the sea. So while it takes just a little bit longer, they're on solid land soon enough. ]
Link! [ Sidon exclaims, still just a touch worried. Only a little. Okay, so, like. Maybe a lot. ] Are you injured, do you need me to get help-?
no subject
His body turned so he could press his cheek against Sidon's skin. Cool and strong, Zora flesh was famously resilient so it wasn't any wonder to Link that he seemed perfectly healthy. His thighs straddled his waist to prevent him from falling one way or the other, but the moment they were out of the water he realized how heavy he felt.
Was he injured? He didn't know. Slowly, he attempted to find his footing but he wobbled and steadied himself with his hands on Sidon's hips. Drenched, boots filled with water, he shuddered from the chill in the air. Help? He finally lifted his head to look around, his voice soft as he finally spoke. ]
Sidon... Where are we?
[ Even if they'd somehow been swept by the river all the way into the Lanayru Sea, he didn't recognize anything. ]
no subject
Wait. Sidon looks at the foreign shore, smells the salty breeze, and he's pretty sure there wasn't a downed aircraft (remnants of a Guardian, maybe?) anywhere around his home. He was so in a tizzy over saving Link that he actually hadn't registered their change in environment. Even now, he still has most of his focus on his Hylian friend as the man steadies himself. Sidon offers a strong arm to support him in addition to the grip on his hips, which he practically welcomes.
Where are they? That's a very good question. ] I'm not sure!
[ Blunt as ever. ]
Though there has to be someone around here who can tell us. [ And still just as optimistic. ] I'm just glad that you're alright, Link. I must admit, I. I was quite worried for a moment there!
[ He knows that Link is nothing if not capable and strong and brave and true. But still, a fall from that height, if he'd hit the rocks instead of the water, would have killed even the most courageous of men among them. Sidon's chest tightened at the thought alone of what could have been. So while they might be somewhere both of them are unfamiliar with and have no idea of what happened at home, at least Link is still alive and (will be) well. ]

His vision momentarily faded, went dark, then came back blurred. He felt as though he'd just faced down several guardians and he just ran out of healing potions. Exhausted, worn, even his ears drooped, but he trembled as he continued to try to stand. Ever the determined warrior, Link didn't bend easily.
Yeah, he was alright. Or at least he was trying to be, and his heavy, deep breaths were continued evidence of his struggle. At least he wasn't wounded, or at the very least he didn't have any outward appearance of blood.
He nodded, though he wasn't entirely sure why he did- as if he was trying to assure Sidon he was fine when he clearly wasn't?
Oh, Link. ]
powerprosing a little bit
Despite that nod, he clearly isn't any kind of shape to trek towards the city on the horizon. That was where Sidon was assuming they were going next, anyway, since it was the only sign of true civilization nearby. That's where there'd find people who could maybe answer their questions, help them piece together all that happened. (He's unaware of the fact that they have devices to do that in this moment but in due time they'll likely realize.)
Without thinking, he's scooping the Hylian up into his arms. ]
I hope that you don't mind, Link, but I think this might be easier for the time being. Hopefully, we can find a place to cook you a nice meal and get you back into top form!
pls powerprose Link forev
There seemed to be a lapse in time from when he was standing to now being in Sidon's arms. His blue eyes widened as a pink flush went over his cheeks, because while it was very practical it was also... a little embarrassing. He was a warrior, after all. He was used to being on his own, protecting and carrying others, now here he was- the tables turned. When was the last time he felt so hot in the face? Oh, when he put on the "vai" outfit to blend in with the Gerudo.
This was an entirely different situation, but just as embarrassing.
His eyes averted briefly, then turned back up to gaze up at his friend. A friend who'd falling off a cliff after him, who'd faced a Divine Beast with him. Link couldn't help but wonder how much easier his journey would have been if Sidon had been able to travel with him every step of the way. One thing was sure: he would've been a lot less lonely. Nicer.
Okay, this was embarrassing but he could admit it, it was also nice.
His weary face seemed to light up at the mention of food, breaking him from his fuzzy thoughts. Zelda wasn't wrong, he was a bit of a glutton. Look, he did a lot of fighting and the best way to stay energized was with food! And it was so delicious, he could smell the tasty fish already... Or was that Sidon? He opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by the loud gurgle of his stomach. Yes, well, apparently they were all in agreement.
As luck would have it, there was a little area at the edge of the beach, just before the forest, which was outfitted with a fire, a cooking pot and a hammock. A nice sheltered area due to the overhanging branches to keep it nice and dry, a nice spot to stop before following the worn path to the city- someone had hammered a signpost by said path and scrawled on the wood was 'Xistentia' and an arrow pointed in that direction. ]
no subject
And he's glad he did. While their paths would have crossed eventually, he's grateful for the fact that things had unfolded the way they had and he'd gained such a dear friend from the whole ordeal. More than a friend, even- Even though that's something he doesn't quite recognize.
He will. All in due time. For now, however, he's laughing at the rumble of Link's stomach in response to the promise of food. ] I'm glad you're in agreement!
[ He lets Link down once they come to where the beach and forest meet, careful to make sure he doesn't fall again. ] It seems like we're on the right track, at least! We appear to have everything here we need. Well, except for the actual food! I can go fishing, if you'd like.
no subject
Realizing it would take longer if he kept his clothes on, he pulled his tunic off and wrung it out- exposing his pale torso, littered with countless scars from battles, and lean muscle which- despite his appetite- barely had any fat to speak of.
At the mention of fish he looked up excitedly at his friend and nodded in happy agreement. As much as he wanted to go with him and help he was clearly going to need a moment, he was still dizzy. ]
I'll see if I can find some herbs.
[ You know, once he can move again. ]
no subject
Perfect!
[ And
he's oooffffff without another thought. Back towards the ocean waves. It only takes him a little while, honestly, to find some fish suitable for cooking. A couple of them look a little strange and not like fish back home, but they should be edible... ]
I hope this is good enough to cook something! Just let me know how else I can help.

By the time Sidon returned, Link had gathered a decent amount of herbs, the fire had been stoked, the hammock cleaned, and all of Link's clothes and boots were hanging on sticks near the fire so they could dry easier, save for his smalls which he remained in for modesty's sake. His hair was mostly dry and he had tied it back into a ponytail, though his side-tails hung freely in front of his ears. ]
Yes, those look nice. Thank you.
[ He accepted the bounty and set them at the bottom of the pot so their skin and scales could sear. He inhaled their scent, and based that on what herbs he was going to use. His eyes were focused on the foot intently, and he turned them over by grabbing their tails, unbothered by the heat.
Once they were cooked enough and he felt satisfied the herbs had infused the meat, he held them up by the tail so he could spear each one with a stick, then handed one to Sidon while he kept the other for himself. He peeled off the cooked scales with ease, which left the crunchy skin and soft flesh beneath to feast on.
After that fall his appetite had been fiercely kicked up, so he was quick to finish his fish while savoring the citrusy taste of the unknown plants. This was the sort of thing that felt familiar to him, though having company was new, and when he looked at Sidon to see how he was enjoying his meal there was a clear look of satisfaction in his eyes. ]
no subject
Once it's finished, however, he only then recognizes how hungry he was himself. He doesn't even bother to remove the cooked scales (it's not like Zora usually scaled their fish, anyway, probably, Pudding may be making up things as she goes leave her alone) before chowing down contently. Link doesn't need to look to know that Sidon is enjoying it because he tells him as such, ]
Magnificent! You're the best cook that I know, able to make such delicious meals with anything you're given!
[ Small moments like these really do make such big differences, don't they? Sidon usually takes his meals by himself.
His father is often busy with royal delegations. Well, the ones that can't yet be passed to Sidon since he does do his fair share of helping out wherever he can. His father had begun giving him more responsibility after the defeat of Ruta and subsequently Calamity Ganon. Either way, he'd never... thought about how nice it would be to have company when doing something as mundane as eating.
It's also possible he's just especially glad for a touch of familiarity in a strange world, which the realization of the fact that they are in a completely foreign place is starting to sink in in subtle ways. ]
no subject
His face flushed with pleasure at Sidon's praise, his grin humble. ]
Thank you. It's always been a passion of mine.
[ It reminded him of the conversation he had with Zelda: What would he have become if he didn't follow in his father's footsteps? A cook, maybe? But there wasn't much point in thinking of that, he doubted that he could retire to a quiet life when there were people who needed help- his powerful urge to help overrode everything. ]
I didn't thank you before... for falling after me. Thank you, Sidon. Without you I would have woken up alone in an unfamiliar land all over again.
no subject
When Link suddenly starts to offer his thanks, Sidon pauses his eating to look up at him a bit more seriously. ]
It's the least I could have done, [ he admits. ] After everything you did for me and my people, I-
[ Well. For as grateful he was for Link saving the people of Zora's Domain, he admits it was a bit more... personal than all that. ]
Even forgoing that, I couldn't stand the thought of what might happen to you. That kind of fall might fatal and I... didn't want to think of a Hyrule without you. Of a life without you.
no subject
[ It was a lot to take in. How much Sidon meant to him, how much he meant to Sidon. They finally had a moment to breathe, away from duty, to sit quietly in each other's company. Granted, they were both probably reeling from the fact that they were in an unknown land, there was a lot to be said about shock, but that aside they still had each other. For a moment, it was easy to forget they weren't in Hyrule.
Links slowly set his empty stick down, his eyes lowered to the fire beneath the pot as his cheeks grew warm. He had admitted to himself, when Zelda said their first stop would be Zora's Domain his heart had leapt at the thought of seeing his closest allies again- but more than that, Sidon's encouraging words rung in his ears during his most difficult of times. He longed to hear that voice beside him, not just from memory.
He longed for... ]
I don't want to think of a life without you, either.
no subject
It's something he still longs for. And even though they're a world away and the fate of Hyrule uncertain, he feels comforted in Link's presence. As long as they have each other, everything will be alright. ]
I'm glad to know you feel the same way! [ he says, smiling. ] I've been taken by you since practically the moment we met! Even for as pushy and unreasonable as I was, you never once hesitated or faltered in helping me and my people. I loved that about you! I love a lot about you, actually.
[ Sidon is pretty sure just loves Link in general, but. Details. ]
no subject
It was a word he never allowed to for himself, because there was far too much at stake with Hyrule in danger. Not to mention the issue of his lost memories, it made him feel as though he had no experience with romance. Not that Link ever shied away from a challenge, he always charged forward head-first into any situation. Why should love be any different? He simply hadn't felt that way for anyone.
But now, staring at Sidon, with the vivid knowledge that he'd leapt after him without hesitation, knowing that he would have done the same if the roles had been reversed. Was he-- Did he--
His heart pounded against his chest. Then, as efficiently as if he were launching himself towards a foe, he bridged the distance between them to press his mouth firmly against Sidon's in the only way he knew how to express himself properly. He couldn't trust his words, he rarely used them, he'd just have to show him! How much Sidon meant to him. ]
no subject
But he was also known, similarly to Link, for charging ahead. It made sense that love was no exception that rule either. He'd never been afraid to speak his mind and while some elders didn't appreciate his bluntness, it seems that Link did. So he's glad for that, of course,
and more than glad for the way the blond man closes the distance between them and gifts him with a kiss.
He's kissing him back, of course, and a clawed hand raises up to grab onto the crook of his bare neck and deepen it further. He's loved Link for a while now, had only hoped that he would have the chance to tell him someday and - despite the circumstances - he's extremely glad that it presented itself. Now that his feelings are known (and reciprocated), he doesn't plan to let the man go anytime soon. ]
no subject
Now he was kissing Sidon, the brother of Mipha. Dear Mipha who loved him so much, but who he could barely remember. What if he loved her back? What if they made love, had plans to be together, what if his feelings for Sidon were because of his forgotten love for his sister? With a grunt in the back of his throat he deepened the kiss and stubbornly refused to think that way. His past was gone, the focus needed to be on the present. Here. In an unknown land with his dearest friend, the person his heart raced for.
Another noise escaped him, this one softer. Not quite a moan, more of a sigh as he slid his tongue into Sidon's mouth- Then promptly yelped, muffled, as he cut himself on those sharp fangs. It wasn't too painful, it surprised him more than anything, and soon the tang of his blood could be tasted by them both. ]
no subject
Sidon was too young to remember much before Link was put to sleep for one hundred years, but- His sister had always been encouraging. Supportive. Despite her own feelings, she would have wanted him (and both of them, possibly) just to be happy. He doesn't doubt for a second that the feelings they share are genuine either. He likes to think this kiss is proof of that, Link's warm tongue in his mouth and brushing over his teeth...
Sidon jolts a little himself when he hears that yelp. ] Link? [ he can't stop himself from asking. On impulse, he rolls his own tongue over his fangs and catches the iron tinge of blood. Oh. His pupils widen a little at the taste, something instinctual taking hold. It drives him to kiss Link again almost immediately, but- Not on the lips this time. His next kiss is placed to the bare skin of his shoulder, teeth skimming the pale surface of it. ]
