Test Drive Meme #4 (cw vehicular crash, moderate injury)

Test Drive Meme #4
Fall toward me with your entire body.

CRASH LANDING

Exit one dimension, enter the next. It was chaos: pressure against your ears, light bending in an impossible, unimaginable way. The very molecules of your body vibrating against one another. If you have windows, the view outside makes no sense. Even if not, your hands, your face, your feet seem like an uncertain thing. It's the feel of reality itself tearing apart, reshaping, reconnecting, thread by thread.

And suddenly, there's a beach— or ocean, whichever you land in. Smoke. Fire. Salt water churning up, fizzing around.

Maybe you crash, in a ship wrecking into sand. Maybe you merely stumble out of a portal, a ragged wormhole in space. Or maybe you fall off the back of an incredible steed, some creature that carried you into this place. Either way, there's pandemonium around you. Incredibly, severe injuries are far and few between— nobody's screaming about the dead. But you might have to help pull someone free of wreckage, or move quickly to salvage burning belongings from the landing craft. Maybe it's the crafts themselves, that you're trying to salvage.

Likely, you don't know them, these other strangers who arrived here[1]. Maybe you don't trust them— you just came out of a dying world, after all. But you all have one thing in common: you're here now.

When you get a second to breathe, maybe you'll see it. The brilliant green forest across the sand. Beyond that, the glint of a faraway city.
FAIRGROUNDS

Xistentia's late summer fair is on! As F.A.T.E.S. learns about different universes and different people, the event looks mismatched, beyond complicated, and you might wonder why, exactly, how to get ride tickets when no money is exchanged. But as you wander through, you can see a rollercoaster, a five-a-side soccer pitch set up for a tournament, facepainting, an archery range, a haunted house, a circus tent, a Ferris wheel, plenty of different food stands with eclectic choices all over, from kebabs to Taiwan's infamous penis-shaped waffles[NSFW] to popsicles for two. Maybe this is only a front to get people involved with each other?

Everybody is welcome to man a booth, or just walk around and participate in the different activities set up around the fairgrounds.

NETWORK

One afternoon, you are taken from whatever you’re doing - taking a walk through the city, sunning yourself on the beach, running around in the forest shoring up defenses - by a message, appearing on your Daemon’s network screen. It’s a simple line of text, that reads:
NEVER HAVE I EVER...?

If you choose to answer it, you’ll be connected to another player at random. You both get 10 points. The loser? Owes the winner a favor.
CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE

hells yeah
Footnotes
  1. Some of these can be nameless, plot-device NPCs to facilitate interactions! But even in this case, please avoid gore in describing their current state of being. Anyone dead or catastrophically injured will have disappeared by the time your characters make it to Xistentia. There are no corpses or dying here.

  2. But like OOCly ask permission ofc.

Crash landing
At first, Glimmer had assumed it was the Gamemakers. That would have made sense--there had been earthquakes and landslides and things like that in other Games. But then there'd been a strange noise, like something huge tearing open and something glowing in front of her.

She'd been holding on to Cato hand as they all tried to run, she knew she had, but somehow she'd been the only one to run headlong into the light and then she'd fallen…through the Arena. Which didn't make any fucking sense.

She didn't have time to think about that right away, since for some reason she was underwater. It was a good thing she'd known the Arena could have been surrounded by water and had prepared to have to swim, so she only panicked for moment when water started filling her throat before she kicked her way to the surface and then to the shore.

Being on land didn't make things make anymore sense. Not when he looked around and saw things on fire and people who definitely weren't Tributes running around. She didn't think as she reached to her side, feeling a little better when she felt the bow and quiver on her body. Then, ignoring the screaming--let those helpless losers figure their own way out--she started running for the trees, cursing when her wet feet, clumped with sand, stumbled over a rock and she fell to her knees.

Fair
Glimmer had never seen anything like this before. Sure, she'd seen buildings that were all lit up different colors and people in weird clothes in the Capitol, but all the smells of things she knew she'd never eaten because they would have made her fat, and the strange giant wheel...those were totally new and--she would only admit to herself--a little scary.

Right now, she was standing a couple feet from a stall where people were walking away with something that looked like it was fried and covered in more sugar than people in most Districts would have ever been able to afford. She took a couple steps forward, trying to sound completely uninterested as she asked the first person she saw,

"What the heck is that?"

beach, closed to ari and YOU;
[in the midst of the chaos, you pick up a shoe. it's a men's shoe, in typical early 21st century fashion. white laces and dark blue leather. it belongs to a slighter fellow, probably. maybe you're looking for who to return it to, with so many shouting people, fires, rescuers arriving gradually through the trees...

and that's when you hear it. a deep, liquid growl. an animal sound, rippling through the grains of sand, the heat-quickened air, your bones.

it's a wolf the size of a horse. black fur and yellow eyes, fangs like knives flashing in the sunshine, bristling out spiky and massive in a way that means something of death.]

[everything is fine.

everything is not fine, but drake is a high-functioning alcoholic and in need of booze. so he hits the fairgrounds, skittish and uncomfortable-looking at first, giving other people as wide a berth as possible, at least right up until he gets the first couple of drinks in him. there's this mash liquor that tastes all right considering; he winds up softer in his mood and limbs and his eyes. in fact, that's him call you over now.]
Oi, [oi oi. he motions with one long brown hand.] Yeah that's right. You. Come along then-- drinks are free, but I'll pretend and buy you one if you like.

crash landing

[ The Planet never seems to be quiet anymore, but Cloud is adept at blocking out the noise. Maybe it's a little more difficult now, after everything he's gone through; the Planet is closer to him than most. But Cloud's stubborn, and drives like the hounds of hell are at his heels. It helps that the wind rushing past his ears is loud enough to drown out everything but the demons in his head. When the road gives way to a cliff - a cliff that hadn't been there just moments ago - Cloud just guns the engine to his motorcycle and prepares for a jump.

It's not the jump he's expecting; he sees the Planet beneath him and then it disappears, swallowed whole. The blackness reminds him of the Geostigma, except where the virus creeps up slowly, this darkness consumes everything in mere moments. It consumes him too, swallowing him up.

Is this the end? he wonders, but only briefly. The pain is intense, similar to falling into the Lifestream, but also more; an amalgamation of everything he experienced in the labs, the fights, falling into the Lifestream and rediscovering his memories.

Cloud stumbles when he lands, falling to his hands and knees on a sandy beach. His motorcycle is gone; it's the first thought that occurs to him. But that's overridden quickly, as he realizes he doesn't know this beach, and there's a cry off somewhere to his left. Instinctively, he scrambles to his feet, hand reaching for his sword - a sword that's no longer present. ]

Fuck.

[ It's muttered softly, surely unheard in the ruckus. ]

Think about that later, Strife.

[ Again, spoken softly, and he's moving off to find the source of that cry. ]

fairgrounds

This can't be worse than the Mansion. [ Cloud stands in front of the Haunted House, staring at the sign, and the cheerful attendant trying to usher him inside. At his feet is a small golden Chocobo, looking up at him with large blue eyes. The creature ruffles its feathers, letting out an indignant 'Kweh' while Cloud hesitates. ]

Don't give me that. I know you can talk.

[ It has been oddly quiet since it first found Cloud, resorting to communicating in chirps, but Cloud heard it speak once. Which is oddly soothing - Cloud still doesn't care to talk much. He is now though, to put off going inside. The tiny Chocobo seems to realize that, nudge it's head against Cloud's leg and pushing.

Even a baby Chocobo can be pushy when it wants to be. With a sigh, Cloud picks up his daemon and marches inside. ]

Fine. Blame yourself if you get frightened.

[ The chick doesn't seem to care either way, but Cloud certainly seems thrilled when they emerge, walking away with quick steps. ]

Not doing that again.

[ Instead, he gets to spend the rest of the day escorting his daemon, inquisitive and pushy, around the rest of the fair. ]

Never have I ever....?

[ Cloud repeats the statement that appeared on the interface, staring at his daemon. A momentary look of frustration crosses his features and he goes to shut it down. The Chocobo snaps at his fingers. ] Tch. Fine. I've never been drunk.

☆ crash landing

[ The skip isn't built particularly solidly, and it crunches into the shore, splintering apart into driftwood. It's not the only thing fragmenting; from where he's landed with a mouthful of sand, Jesper can hear the sound of explosions, feel the metal without looking. When he rolls to his feet in a cloud of peppery grey sand, it's with his guns out and at the ready — like that's going to do anything.

He looks back. Beyond the chaos on the beach, beyond the breakers, beyond the point where the water is so far away that it tricks the eye into believing it's still, he strains for a sign of the world he just came from. There's nothing but the horizon. The engine fire spilling thick smoke in a long upwards column to mar the blue sky isn't anything like the smog-grey of Ketterdam as it had vibrated apart.

There's a ringing in his ears and Jesper shakes himself out of his panicked daze, sheathes his pearl-handled pistols, runs back towards the wreckage of the skip, even though he had already realized he was alone in those shocking milliseconds before impact. Even if Wylan or Kaz isn't lying injured amidst the wreckage, his craft wasn't the only one. Maybe he can make himself useful.
]

☆ fairgrounds

[ Now this, this is far more his element, even if he can't help thinking the whole fair looks like it was designed by someone who'd read about these kinds of places but never really experienced them. A jumble of things to do, and most of them more wholesome than the kinds of entertainment Jesper was used to.

Or — maybe not quite so wholesome.
]

You've got to be kidding me.

[ As he stares at the phallic food being sold by one vendor, unable to stop the corners of his mouth twitching up. He orders one, of course.

Still, gambling's gambling, and he's drawn to the kinds of attractions that have lit up signs and rows of large plush animals. Turns out his luck's no better when it comes to spinning this wheel than the black-and-red Mekker's wheel in the casinos back home, and he can't quite get the trick of dropping light little balls into the open mouths of clowns, but the ring toss, oh. The same unconscious talent that makes him a precision marksman guides every skipping, skidding ring across the bottles to hang upon the brightly colored ones.

Which is how gangly, brightly-dressed Jesper comes to be navigating this fair with a large purple squid-like plush in his arms, tentacles so long they're nearly dragging in the dirt.

i. Crash Landing
Bastion knew what this was or at least, he thought he did. This was the end. The Titans had won, their world had been torn apart, the Scions and the Gods had failed. It wasn't surprising, but it wasn't an easy pill to swallow either.

He'd never died before, but he'd come close a few times and this wasn't what he'd expected. Like, at all.

Without warning, he was skidding across something coarse and painful, tumbling across the beach until he came to a stop. Aside from a few scratches, he didn't exactly look worse for wear and seemed to be shaking off the epic fall without much trouble.

Now came the confusion because this was definitely not what he expected death would be like.

ii. Fairgrounds
Bastion wasn't really sure what to make of this place or this fair, but the bright lights and the smell of amazing food that was terrible for you had him wandering through the crowds of people. The games and rides didn't exactly interest him, though subtly people watching others get excited or scared over them was worth putting up with getting yelled at by the carnies trying to entice more people to part with their money.

His nose led him over to the plethora of food booths and were those... Yep. Definitely waffle dicks. They actually looked delicious.

"I'll take one of the- Is that vanilla on the tip? Oh, that one there. With the chocolate and sprinkles," He smirked as he was handed the waffle, looking for a place to sit down and attempt to try this thing.

Fairgrounds
Zeke was still getting used to all of this. He had an adjustment period after his arrival, and thank God for Janus or else he didn't think he would've made it with as much sanity as he had right now. It was a lot to take in; no family, no friends, seemingly insurmountable odds. But hey, he wasn't going to mope around, he was going to get right to it and figure out the best way to restore his world. And it could have been worse, he could've been completely alone, a good Christian demon like him had to count his blessings.

He had a pocket full of ride tickets and he had every intention on riding the biggest and the baddest, not once but twice! He could also be found enjoying the circus crowd, totally willing to share his bag of peanuts, the haunted house, as your ultimate protector, and stuffing his face at the food stands because he decided that today was a cheat day. Look, he just lost his entire world, he was allowed to have a cheat day.

And yeah, you bet your ass he was going to be eating one of those penis-shaped waffles because it was too funny to resist. He chose a vanilla base with a white drizzle, something that reminded him of a certain someone, and he couldn't wipe the smile off his face as he ate it. He knew back home a big guy like him eating one of these was certain to draw attention, so he kept his eyes open in curiosity to see if the people here might do the same.

It felt weird to be at the fair on his own without the gaggle of his daughters and his son around his feet, but he'd make it through. He'd get them back. If that meant he had to be goddamn social then he was going to social the hell out of this world.

after consulting a small model space ship -- her designated daemon, jokerd-- she approaches whoever is nearby, face stoic in its metallic shines.

I recommend remaining calm. ( says a cool synthetic voice as edi talks, tilting her head in keen interest. her head is still on fire. hm. ) I have scanned the database in this 'daemon', and have determined we are not at risk here. However, finding suitable shelter is the obvious course of action.
