TEST DRIVE MEME #12

Test Drive Meme #12
Madness to magnet keeps attracting me, me

CRASH LANDING

Exit one dimension, enter the next. It was chaos: pressure against your ears, light bending in an impossible, unimaginable way. The very molecules of your body vibrating against one another. If you have windows, the view outside makes no sense. Even if not, your hands, your face, your feet seem like an uncertain thing. It's the feel of reality itself tearing apart, reshaping, reconnecting, thread by thread.

And suddenly, there's a beach— or ocean, whichever you land in. Smoke. Fire. Salt water churning up, fizzing around, reaching toward a brilliant blue sky.

Maybe you crash, in a ship wrecking into sand. Maybe you merely stumble out of a portal, a ragged wormhole in space. Or maybe you fall off the back of an incredible steed, some creature that carried you into this place. Either way, there's pandemonium around you. Incredibly, severe injuries are far and few between— nobody's screaming about the dead. But you might have to help pull someone free of wreckage, or move quickly to salvage burning belongings from the landing craft. Maybe it's the crafts themselves, that you're trying to salvage.

Likely, you don't know them, these other strangers who arrived here[1]. Maybe you don't trust them— you just came out of a dying world, after all. But you all have one thing in common: you're here now.

When you get a second to breathe, maybe you'll see it. The rich, green forest across the sand. Beyond that, the glint of a faraway city.
Day & Night

Your first week in Xistentia[2], people are a little shaken up. If they seem not to trust that you're the real you, don't worry about it too much. It's nothing personal. You begin to settle in despite being asked for the umpteenth time that you're really sure you're not an evil twin. When you check your clock is when things start to feel a little off. The device reads eleven A.M. but that can't be right. It's pitch black outside with stars dotting the sky. You might believe at first that's just the way this reality operates but then start to notice even the longer standing residents seem confused.

Even your daemon seems a little thrown by the sudden shift in the day and night cycle. Maybe their alarm is going off at three A.M because it's suddenly broad daylight outside. Or maybe you're late for a very important date because evening was hours ago even though the clock reads that it should be just starting.

Hopefully, you didn't really need that sleep to settle in. It might not be a bad time to see if any of the shops have some black-out curtains or fuzzy eye masks in stock!
NETWORK

Xistentia now has its own 'friending app.' You can use it to make connections with new people! But beware, your daemon may well post without your permission, and things could get pretty embarrassing.

F.A.T.E.S. thought it was a pretty good pun: Synchr. Get it? Like sinker? Hook, line, and?

  1. Some of these can be nameless, plot-device NPCs to facilitate interactions! But even in this case, please avoid gore in describing their current state of being. Anyone dead or catastrophically injured will have disappeared by the time your characters make it to Xistentia. There are no corpses or dying here.

Cehd'ra Rowe - Final Fantasy XIV

Crash Landing

A lot of things hurt. His shoulders and his legs in particular, more so when he moved them, getting his limbs underneath and pushing the wet sand away to get himself upright. Cehd'ra noticed a splash of red and gold on his left, eyes blearily focusing on the same broken pillar that had kept him afloat while...

What had happened, exactly?

Cehd'ra leaned a hand against the pillar, looking over the chipped wood at the length of the debris littered beach. His ears twitched and he instinctively dropped back down at the sight of movement: other figures wandering the wreckage, just as lost as he was and none of them looking familiar. No black uniforms like his own, no flashy Xaela armor, not even a Doman peasant from what he could see. Even among the wreckage, the only recognizable piece of it was the pillar he now used as cover. Just how far had the sea taken him?

Doing his best to remain hidden, the next thing Cehd'ra spotted was the forest. Not terribly far, but in broad daylight making it unseen was a challenge the miqo'te was not up to at that particular moment. On the other hand if he was 'alone' here...maybe he didn't need to hide at all. With a deep breath Cehd'ra pushed his body one more time, staggering out into the open. It felt strange to let himself be spotted. More so when he realized some were staring at him. Had none of them seen a miqo'te before?

"What?" he muttered, voice hoarse from the salt water he must have been trying to breathe. "That's rude, you know."
