PLOTTING POST: Through the Looking Glass

Stop what you're doing
A month of Forced Confessions has weakened the defences around Xistentia. To combat this problem, F.A.T.E.S. has urged residents to act kindly to one another and rebuild their relationships, providing the energy desperately needed to shore up its firewall.
D.E.S.T.I.N.Y. has other ideas.
He's going to release a what in the where?
The payload, simply, is a data stick. Once Ignacio plugs it into the Temple's Chronological Cartographer, it will release a virus which will infiltrate the system, spreading through every timeline catalogued within. The problem? The Cartographer contains the timeline of every character in Xistentia. The infection is coming for you. Once infected, the character will transform into a mirror version of themselves, seeking to ruin and shatter the very things that were most important to them. Those relationships you wanted to fix? Your mirror self wants to tear it all down.
The infection will last until F.A.T.E.S. is able to fully eradicate it from their system, which will take a few weeks, at least. Those who aren't infected will be encouraged to help by trying to fix what the virus is breaking, restoring friendships and promoting unity in the face of discord. By the end of the month, the virus will be gone – but what damage will it have done to the city's firewall? Could the city now be vulnerable to a larger, far more damaging attack?
Only time will tell.
Gesture Interruptus
How does this integrate into the gestures plot? Any number of options are likely, including:- Mirror selves can crash weddings, parties, stealing gifts, and otherwise ruining other 'gestures,' preventing the repairs
- Impersonation and alienation of CR, including texting/network misfires and nastygrams
- Insecurity/identity crises— what if your ships or CR works better with the mirror than the original individual? What could that imply?
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
1. Practicalities
This plot will begin on Wednesday 9 May and continue until 26 May, at which point the virus will be deleted and all mirror characters will return to normal. There will be a mingle log, but characters will also be free to make their own logs and posts throughout the event. This post will also serve as your plotting post – please use the comments section below to make your plans!
2. Is there an opt out?
If you don't want your character to be infected, that's fine! The virus is not designed to infect everyone. Characters should be aware that it's happening around them even when they are not infected, however.
3. Okay, but what is a mirror version? What does it mean for my character?
That's entirely up to you! You can be creative with this. Basically, your character will become the opposite to what they're normally like. A kind character will turn cruel, an optimist will become a pessimist, and so on. You can decide what that means for your character. Note that the virus will not cause any changes to powers or abilities; it will be targeting characters' personalities.
4. But my character is already a cruel pessimist. What will happen to them?
Maybe they'll become nice guys for a change. D.E.S.T.I.N.Y. wants to subvert characters and make them turn against their own usual goals, desires and friends. Villains characters turning into heroes will be just as strange and discordant for their CR as heroes turning bad. Besides, D.E.S.T.I.N.Y. doesn't care about your morality – they're just trying to make your life hard, whatever that might mean.
5. This Ignacio fellow sure is an asshole. What do we do about him?
Ignacio is an Agent of D.E.S.T.I.N.Y. For the time being, his role in unleashing the virus will remain unknown – characters will not ICly be aware of his involvement at this stage. This may change in the future!
6. Will daemons be affected?
The daemons are connected to F.A.T.E.S. main system – therefore the virus will spread to them, too. As with regular characters, not all daemons will be infected, but those that are will develop mirror personalities. All daemons, however, will become slower, less responsive, and more prone to glitches and even system crashes, due to the virus infecting the mainframe. They will return to normal once the event ends.
7. Will people remember their mirror memories after the plot is over?
Yes, neither the mirror nor the original individual will lose memories. Mirror selves will remember their regular lives, and vice versa. Memory will be continuous with deeds and actions.

Plans so far: Rafa will be mirrored! He'll be abandoning his peacekeeping ways and adopting a much more hardline, cruel and tyrannical personality which will see him attempt to make Xistentia part of his Empire! He's the ruler you never wanted. He'll be making a new temporary home in the citadel, and his affectionate nature will pretty much disappear. Also, he's not fighting for either F.A.T.E.S. or D.E.S.T.I.N.Y. - he's on his own side, and planning to take over all of them.
Opt-out: Death. Pretty much anything short of death is fine, but let's plot out any fight scenes you may want to have!

Plans so far: He will be mirrored! Marcos will have a complete about-face in regards to the issues that have driven him apart from his girlfriend, Lorna. Instead of wanting peace between humans and mutants and aiming for peaceful resistance and rescue, he'll be for all out war against humanity. He'll go back to his old ways of torture and murder, and will be willing to use his powers for same! Let me know if you'd like to plot anything out.

Plans so far: kurt is absolutely getting mirrored because who doesn't want to see that? he'll be the exact opposite from his usual self, which is all kind and well-mannered. he'll be only about mutants and will have no hesitation striking down humans that stand in the way or possibly bringing harm to them. (if necessary at the time)
literally, he will be living up to the part of himself that he knows nothing about: the demon-y side. all ruthless and malevolent and inconsiderate, unless you're a mutant/metahuman/gifted/etc.
