Do already-powered characters have to get a powerset overwrite when they go on rescue missions, or can they keep their original ones?
Any character who goes into the other universe must obtain a powerset that is compliant with the prison world. It is part of the "AUing" process. All aspects of the character from personality to powers becomes overwritten.
Must those new powers replace their old ones once they are back in Xistentia, or can they default back to normal?
Upon return to Xistentia (after the mission), retaining AU powers is optional!
After the initial 1-3 days, characters on rescue missions begin to remember their "true" identities and the reason they are in this world, right?
Yes! The first 1-3 days is just a temproary sleeper period, followed by lucidity.
