[ The way Jaden leans away from him is weirder even than hearing him say he's never had a pack. He's not just confused by this. He hates the idea. Wyatt tries very hard to hold on to the thought that this is all a mistake, that they can fix it, that they can get back the memories that have been lost.

But he's looking at a completely different Jaden right now. He smells the same, but he doesn't feel the same, and Wyatt can tell that he's creeping him out.

I guess you're not.

[ His words feel hollow. The part of him that's still bonded to his pack is aching now. He doesn't want this. He wants to go home. He doesn't care what the Blaise-daemon said about the world ending. Whatever. He doesn't want to be alive here without them. It isn't worth it. He'd rather fight and die by their sides than be stuck here, talking to shadows of people he loves.

He takes a shaky breath.

It's my school. I met a guy called Jaden Cosgrove there, a werewolf like me. He was my roommate. And he was in my pack. He'd never been in one, either. The first thing he ever asked me was how it all worked. And things were good, I mean mostly. You -- he, means a lot to me.

[ That's really understating the fact. ]

You sure...that none of this means anything to you?
