Test Drive Meme #7

Test Drive Meme #7
Hold me tight, it's getting cold.

CRASH LANDING

Exit one dimension, enter the next. It was chaos: pressure against your ears, light bending in an impossible, unimaginable way. The very molecules of your body vibrating against one another. If you have windows, the view outside makes no sense. Even if not, your hands, your face, your feet seem like an uncertain thing. It's the feel of reality itself tearing apart, reshaping, reconnecting, thread by thread.

And suddenly, there's a beach— or ocean, whichever you land in. Smoke. Fire. Salt water churning up, fizzing around, almost at odds with the layer of thick snow over everything.

Maybe you crash, in a ship wrecking into sand. Maybe you merely stumble out of a portal, a ragged wormhole in space. Or maybe you fall off the back of an incredible steed, some creature that carried you into this place. Either way, there's pandemonium around you. Incredibly, severe injuries are far and few between— nobody's screaming about the dead. But you might have to help pull someone free of wreckage, or move quickly to salvage burning belongings from the landing craft. Maybe it's the crafts themselves, that you're trying to salvage.

Likely, you don't know them, these other strangers who arrived here[1]. Maybe you don't trust them— you just came out of a dying world, after all. But you all have one thing in common: you're here now.

When you get a second to breathe, maybe you'll see it. The snowy forest across the sand. Beyond that, the glint of a faraway city.
The Winter Festival

Your first party in Xistentia[2] is wild, unexpected combination of cultures celebrating the winter holidays from around the Multiverse. Some of them are of contemporary Earth-- Diwali, Christmas, and Hannukkah are all represented, along with the Lunar New Year accelerated somewhat ahead of schedule. You'll find sticky rice pudding, samosas, Henna tattoos, dreidels, chocolate coins, and lanterns in dozens of shapes and sizes. The liquor is plentiful too. All the classics, from wine to mead.

If you aren't familiar with mistletoe, you'll be happy to know that F.A.T.E.S. will prevent unexpected smooches from landing on your face unless you assent. But there is certainly a lot of it around.

However, from unfamiliar worlds, there are a number of other unusual traditions. One of those is Mutuya, a practice from a dwarven land of lightbringing. Two partners, selected at random, get two torches they must carry outside and walk around the snowy building, keeping each other lit. Upon their return, they pass their torches onto a random person— or try again, if they failed. Those who succeed to bring the light back then write a wish on a tapestry hung in the center of the room. You'll notice a lot of people are wishing to return home and save their worlds.

Interestingly, there is even a space for those who disapprove of the interfaith mingling to debate or discuss the mingling of faiths.
NETWORK

As of December 2017, Xistentia now has its own 'friending app.' You can use it to make connections with new people! But beware, your daemon may well post without your permission, and things could get pretty embarrassing.

F.A.T.E.S. thought it was a pretty good pun: Synchr. Get it? Like sinker? Hook, line, and?

Footnotes
  1. Some of these can be nameless, plot-device NPCs to facilitate interactions! But even in this case, please avoid gore in describing their current state of being. Anyone dead or catastrophically injured will have disappeared by the time your characters make it to Xistentia. There are no corpses or dying here.

  2. If you decide to join the game, this party will lead to the world-hop in December, detailed in the announcement! Features include The Grinch and Whoville.

festival/ suddenly the sun comes up
( Returning to a city, even one as different as this, is like a breath of fresh air, or coming home after a long journey. In a way, Seoya supposes that's exactly what this is. She's finally back in the sort of place she grew up in, where there's an endless array of things and people. Where nothing's the same as soon as you turn a corner. Not that the wilds and hunting didn't have its appeal, but-

Well. She wouldn't want to make it her livelihood. They had their fun and now she can return to something familiar, painted in unfamiliar colours. Discover a new city, have a bath that isn't in a freakin' river.

She really missed civilisation.
)

That's delicious, my Lady-

( Seoya don't talk with your mouth full of samosa, darling. … But okay, I suppose we're doing that, huh? Nothing about this winter celebration looks like the sorts she knows from home, but food and fun is universal. She stops for a spiralling henna design that creeps like ivy from her fingers to her elbow and spends a lot of time eyeing the sprigs of mistletoe as she wanders the streets. If you happen to get too close to her when there's something interesting nearby - spoiler: there almost always is - Seoya will have no worries about tipping her head to one side, a girlish grin on her face, and asking: )

Shall we do it together?

I have always loved Alstromeria. Marigolds! And, of course, Snapdragons. My family's gardener cultivated beautiful Snapdragons. 🌼🌼

[ Crimson is dressed still in her christmas themed kimono-esque outfit. It's one of her own design and she's got her hair in braids, knots on the sides. she smiles when she hears the other girl's offer, tilting her head.

The girl looks about her age but sometimes -- especially here it's hard to tell.

That doesn't matter. ]

Why not?

( Seoya's still in the same, slightly dirt stained blouse and trousers from her hunting, crossbow left... somewhere. Put down for safekeeping, to be picked up later. The other girl's outfit is absolutely adorable, and the hair-

Gosh, sometimes you forget just how much you miss the beauty found in things like clothes and markets. The variety of something that isn't run through forest, kill monster, make gold. Adventure is nice and all but...

Well. It wasn't her who suggested this path.
)

Great! Ah, wait. ( First things first. She holds out a hand: ) I'm Seoya Park. What's your name?

[ Crimson smiles at the introduction and she reaches to shake her hand in a firm and warm grasp. She's practiced her handshakes. Her dad always said it was the best way to make a good impression in life and that a good handshake can get you anywhere.

She's not sure that's actually true but she'd practiced all the same with every stuffed animal she had when she was little. ]

Crimson Freeman. It's great to meet you Seoya.

( Well, when it comes to Seoya, it certainly is. She's learned far too much about proper manners, to ensure she makes good impressions on her parents' friends and any peers. School wouldn't let her forget the importance of a good handshake, and neither would her parents. Her smile gets brighter as they shake hands. It's a good handshake, and that only increases her joy at meeting someone new. )

Likewise! Have you been here long?

( Things asked as she slowly leads the way to the stall that caught her eye in the first place. )
luminator: (Default)

WHY IS HANDSHAKE APPRECIATION SO CUTE THO?

[personal profile] luminator 2017-12-12 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
[ Crimson's smile widens as the handshake unfolds and she finds Seoya to be quite good at the act. It says a lot about her already. ]

Not very long, just a couple weeks. My brother and I arrived together. [ She smiles as they head to the stall, though each of the other draw her curiosity if there's a lot of colors. ]

the rule of averages, correct?
if you ask every single person you come across eventually one will work in your favor.

food always seems like the more practical thing.
flowers are nice, but don't serve much of a purpose outside the aesthetic.

is the space on your windowsill currently taken?
